JGE Retro is a hip-hop duo hailing from St. Louis, Missouri. The duo is made up of artists Lil Shawn and Shad, and is part of the larger independent record label “JGE” (Jackie Gabrielle Entertainment). Growing up, Lil Shawn and Shad were surrounded by the music industry. Not only did they grow up during a prominent period in St. Louis’ hip-hop scene, but they were born into a legacy of hip-hop. Lil Shawn is the nephew of the famous rapper Nelly, and Shad is the son of Nelly’s former manager, Tony “T-Luv”. As a result, these two artists inherited the talent of their parents, and began making music at an early age. While they grew up at the height of St. Louis’ hip-hop culture, they now have decided to stray away from other current sounds coming out of the city, because they feel the trap genre has grown too generic.
With their latest single, “Monopoly $”, JGE Retro has achieved the fresh new sound they envisioned for themselves. “Monopoly $” is a song that is fun, free, and even a little silly. “Monopoly $” is produced by Jayson ‘Jay’ Cole and Starstrukk Productionz.
