Aaron B. Thompson – Pulse (Spotify)

Aaron B. Thompson releases his new song Pulse. Here is what he had to say about the release.

“We’ve all got a story, mine is one that has some beauty and some pain in its pages. Music has always been a part of the narrative, a character that weaves in and out of the storyline over the years. The painful part for me was in my twenties. I suppose most people call them the lost years, I call them the blank years because I don’t remember a lot of it. I got myself into drugs and alcohol, mostly alcohol, and life wasn’t really amounting to a whole lot. I was living life like a rock star before I had even written a single song. When I finally got sober, the beautiful years,
I began to write about all the mistakes and regret and anything else that I needed to purge.

After some time and many bad songs I began to find my voice; both literally and figuratively. While scrolling Twitter one day in 2015 I came upon a producer named Michael Estok and the rest in history. We cut a few songs together which didn’t amount to much, but in 2016 we released my Reborn EP. This 4 song EP had some songs about my addiction, the pain I had caused my wife specifically, and one very special song to me called Twentysomething. It is about a friend who, at the age of 24, was diagnosed with a life threatening illness. That EP was recorded with Michael in Nashville and will always be a nostalgic reminder of how far we’ve come. One of the songs “False Promises” made the semi-finals of the Canadian Songwriting competition.

In April 2018 we released a follow up 7 song EP called “Dark”. Dark delves once again into the theme of addictions and relationships, poised with metaphoric lyrical content and soulful experimental production. One of the tracks “Into the West” won the undiscovered category this year at the Canadian Songwriting Competition. Dark received critical acclaim in the indie community and was featured on several blogs.

Now we have released the song I am most proud of, “Pulse”. It is a song about all those who loved me despite myself in those blank years. Embedded in the song is a sample of the heartbeat of our unborn baby. Life and Love are precious and this track celebrates that idea.

These songs are a collection of my experiences; my story put to music. Though I write personally, I keep the picture imagery universal so that you can put your own dreams and experiences inside the words I am singing. By doing this, we can all experience something together and connect a piece of ourselves to one another. For what good are music and experience if they are not collectively shared?”
